Chelsea board has given the green light to designs altering the club’s crest.

Express Sport reports that plans are already underway to make adjustments to the current design approved by the club’s owner, Roman Abramovich in 2005.

The existing crest, which was released following Abramovich’s purchase of the club, features a lion holding a staff, which is the Earl of Cadogan’s coat of arms.

The newspaper reports that the lion will stay but adjustments are currently being made to the font.

A source at Stamford Bridge told the newspaper, “The crest is being redesigned. There won’t be massive changes but it’s being given a freshen up.”

Ahead of the club’s centenary year in 2005, Abramovich restored the rampant lion to the club’s crest in a move that went down well with fans.

The Russian has since made Chelsea a global brand but there were suggestions he could sell the club he bought in a deal worth £140million in 2013.
