EPL: Chelsea begin talks with Lampard to replace Juventus-bound Sarri

Chelses have opened talks with former midfielder, Frank Lampard, over the possibility of succeeding Maurizio Sarri, Goal reports.

Although Sarri finished third in the Premier League and won the Europa League, he is set to return to Italy and sign for Juventus.

Max Allegri, whom Sarri will replace in Turin, was the early favourite to inherit the Stamford Bridge hot-seat.

The 51-year-old, however, is likely to undertake a sabbatical forcing Chelsea to pursue alternative options.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, Watford’s Javi Gracia have also been linked with the Stamford Bridge job, but Lampard is believed to be in front of the queue.

Chelsea are said to hold reservations over Lampard’s suitability, given his lack of managerial experience, with just one season at Derby under his belt.

The 40-year-old narrowly missed out on promotion, losing in the play-off final to Aston Villa.
