EPL: Burnley stun nine-man Chelsea, Watford hold Liverpool to 3-3 draw

Chelsea began the defence of their Premier League title in the worst possible fashion, losing 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The Blues were already without a number of key players due to injuries or suspensions, but went one man down after captain Gary Cahill for shown a straight red card for a diving tackle.

From then on, the Clarets took complete control of the game and went three goals up.

Sam Vokes’ effort snuck past Thibaut Courtois, before Ward doubled their advantage with a fierce strike inside the area. Vokes was left unmarked in the box and powered in the third, as Sean Dykes’ men tormented their hosts in the first half.

However, Antonio Conte’s men upped their game in the second, especially with the introduction of record signing Alvaro Morata, who pulled one back and set up the second for David Luiz.

Liverpool were held to a 3-3 draw by Watford in the first game of the day, while new boys Huddersfield hammered Crystal Palace 3-0 at Selhurst Park. The game between Swansea and Southampton had no goals, while Wayne Rooney bagged the winner as Everton saw off Stoke City 1-0.
