EPL: Aubameyang tells Emery his preferred position ahead of Tottenham clash

Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has said that he is hoping to retain his place as a central striker for Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, though he is prepared to shift to the wing if required.

Aubameyang led the line in the absence of Alexandre Lacazette in the Gunners’ last Premier League 2-1 victory over Bournemouth, and got on the score sheet in the second half.

However, the majority of his appearances this season have come off the left wing with Lacazette preferred through the middle.

Lacazette is expected to return from injury for the clash against Tottenham, and Aubameyang says he is prepared to do the job for the team on the wing even though he prefers playing as a centre-forward.

“I prefer to play as a striker, in the middle, of course,” Aubameyang told Sky Sports.

“But I’m a guy who works for the team as well. And if they need me on the wing, I’ll play on the wing, of course. But I prefer to play striker.”

The Gunners have had a host of excellent strikers who have put Spurs to the sword in the past, and Aubameyang is keen to emulate them.

He continued, “Of course, we try to follow the steps. It’s not easy, but we try. It’s not pressure, but you know you have to be good so you work for that.

“And I think that’s good, when you have great examples like Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp, and it’s great for us to try to follow their steps.”
