EPL: Aubameyang’s winner against Watford hailed as ‘Goal of the Season’

Former Aston Villa and Liverpool player, Dean Saunders, has claimed that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the goal of the season in Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Watford.

The Gabon striker sealed a vital victory for Unai Emery’s side by capitalising on a mistake from Ben Foster in the first half at Vicarage Road.

Foster took too long to clear the ball and Aubameyang was able to close down the Watford goalkeeper, whose clearance cannoned off the Arsenal striker to flew into the net.

Saunders insists the Arsenal striker’s goal was even better than Mohamed Salah’s long-range effort in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.

“Aubameyang’s goal, for me, this is going to sound stupid, is the goal of the season for me.

“You look at Salah’s goal and you think, ‘how can that be better?’.

“Aubameyang has chased a lost cause, which is a goal he’s got out of nothing, closed down Ben Foster and turned it into a goal.

“A spectacular goal for me, being a striker and coaching strikers, I enjoyed that goal more than Salah’s goal.

“Because he turned a backpass, he didn’t have to do it, effort and determination, if Aubameyang like a lot of strikers didn’t chase him he [Foster] plants it forward. He’s made a goal out of absolutely nothing and won them the game,” Saunders told talkSPORT.
