EPL: Arsenal battle Tottenham for Barcelona midfielder

Arsenal are reported to be in contact with Barcelona over a potential deal for midfielder, Malcom Filipe Silva de Oliveira commonly known as Malcom.

Barcelona signed the Brazilian from Bordeaux for an initial €41 million (£36.5m) during the transfer window in summer.

But since his arrival to the Camp Nou, the 25-year-old is yet to start a game for his new club this season and has only played a combined total of 25 minutes in his two appearances as a substitute.

According to Sport, the Gunners are interested in the midfielder, and have made the Spanish club aware that they would be willing to move for Malcom in January if he were to be made available.

But Arsenal, who would be willing to sign the Brazilian on loan, face strong competition from their rival ream, Tottenham, who are ready to spend up to €50m (£44m).

Tottenham wanted signing Malcom in January but Bordeaux refused to entertain any offers until the end of the season.

Last week, Malcom’s agent, Junior Minguella admitted that the winger was unhappy with his current situation at Barca.

“Every player needs a period of adaptation and minutes on the pitch to prove their worth,” Junior Minguella told RAC1.

“He hasn’t had them yet, but he’ll prove his worth when he does play.

“He doesn’t like the situation, but he’s focused and very motivated.”
