Enyimba Football club of Nigeria, have confirmed that they will be filing a report to the Confederation of African Football, CAF, against Tunisian club, Etoile du Sahel, over the hostile treatment they received ahead of the return fixture of the Champions League clash at the Olympic Stadium in Sousse on Wednesday.
Etoile reportedly employed different antics to frustrate the Nigeria flag bearers as they sought by all means to grab the ticket to the lucrative group phase of the Champions League but failed eventually in the penalty shoot out.
Enyimba Head of Media, Farriel Alaputa, said on Thursday that the club will file a petition to CAF today.
“Enyimba will file a formal letter of complaint to CAF today over the actions of Etoile du Sahel in yesterday’s (Wednesday) game,” he said.
Alaputa added that Enyimba’s Chairman, Felix Anyansi had declared that the club would not overlook the brutality of Etoile du Sahel for the joy of their victory, but will carry a protest to CAF to get the Tunisians pay for what they did.
The spokesman noted that the threat of violence was so high that all Enyimba officials were on the bench during the game, as that was the only safe place they could hide.
He said, “Despite that, rocks, iron rods and plastic bottles were rained down on the roof of the bench throughout.
“During half time, the match officials and match commissioner were victims of the stoning and they had to retreat to the bench of Etoile.
“It was Enyimba water the match officials had to drink. Etoile officials abandoned them.”
Regardless of all the Tunisians antics, the Aba millionaires were resilient enough to progress to the group phase of the CAF Champions League with a 4-3 win in the penalty kicks decider.
