Current champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Enyimba, will play their home games in the 2016 CAF Champions League, at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The People’s Elephant have been forced to look for an alternative venue, following the slow pace of renovation work at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
It is highly unlikely it will be finished in time for their opening match in the competition on February 28.
“The ongoing rehabilitation work at the Enyimba Stadium is not moving at a very quick pace,” Farriel Allaputa, spokesman of Enyimba, told supersport.com.
“It is looking very unlikely that we will play the return fixture (against Vipers) at our own stadium so we have opted for the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt to play that game.
“We have already received clearance from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to that effect.”
Enyimba, who have won the competition twice, face Ugandan club Vipers SC in the preliminary round. The first leg will be played on the weekend of February 12-14 at the Bunamwaya Stadium.
