The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has said that Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, did not inform them about the death of his mother.
Former media officer of the Super Eagles, Colin Udoh, confirmed the bereavement in a tweet on Wednesday night.
He wrote: “Unable to reach Enyeama so far, but have confirmed from close family sources that he lost his mum hence the withdrawal from #SuperEagles.”
Few hours later, the NFF posted on its official Twitter handle: “Please note: Goalie Vincent Enyeama is yet to inform NFF or Super Eagles coaches about the loss of his mother.”
The tweets has drawn widespread criticism from Nigerians, who adjudged the post to be insensitive.
@AllyShimmer replied: “@thenff you seem to be aware as you’re tweeting about it. A loss is not like a wedding that someone has to like invite/inform you.”
Another user with the handle @real_madrid_975 wrote: “@thenff why will NFF put this kind of info up on twitter. You guys need to be very professional, very discreet, and very respectful.”
