Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper and captain, Vincent Enyeama, has buried his mother, Lucy, in his hometown of Urua Inyang in Akwa Ibom State.
The Lille stopper lost his mother, as the Eagles prepared to travel to Tanzania for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which resulted in him pulling out of the squad.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president, Amaju Pinnick, led a strong delegation to the ceremony and spoke highly of the late Mrs Enyeama.
“One of those children that our dear mother, Mrs Lucy Enyeama, left behind is Vincent, one of the best goalkeepers in the world for several years now, a three –time FIFA World Cup star and winner of the Africa Cup of Nations, as well as several other accomplishments,” Pinnick said.
“The Nigeria football fraternity appreciates how much our Captain must be grieving at this period. His mother, Mrs Lucy Philip Enyeama was a very caring and compassionate parent, who gave her children much love and support during her lifetime.”
Also present at Saturday’s burial mass, were the Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom, Deputy Governor Mr Moses Ekpo and the Secretary to the State Government, Sir Etekamba Umoren.
