Enugu PDP enraged over destruction of Ugwuanyi’s billboards by opposition

The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Campaign organization in Enugu State, on Friday condemned what it described as “the vicious destruction and vandalisation of billboards and posts belonging to the Party’s gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi by hoodlums suspected to be working for the All Progressive Party’s Candidate, Chief Okey Ezea”.

In a statement signed by Chukwudi Achife, Director Media and Publicity, the party described the attack which occurred Thursday, as the height of political brigandage and desperation on the part of the APC, adding however the act was in consonance with the usual habit of the party during elections periods.

“The APC and its guber candidate in Enugu State cannot make the minutes headway in any ward in Enugu State, talk less of winning the election, so as usual they have resorted to senseless violence as it were.

“They have tried blackmail and mischievous allegations against the PDP and its candidates and failed woefully. Now the new gimmick is to attack and destroy our bill boards, it is an act that is both puerile and unintelligent,” he stated.

He also expressed with dismay the threat allegedly issued by the APC candidate against the Divisional Police officer of New Haven, Enugu, whose men arrested the suspects. This according to him clearly shows the true character of the “man and that of his party”.

Achife commended the Police for their vigilance and prompt action in arresting the suspects, urging them investigate the matter thoroughly in order to ensure that the culprits and their sponsors were brought to book.

He further urged the police not to be intimidated by the antics of the APC but should rather ensure that the law takes its due course at all times. He also advised the police and PDP members to remain vigilant as the attack on the bill boards could be early signs of the violence being planned by the APC in Enugu State as the elections approached.
