Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, has stated that Enugu indigenes resident in Anambra state will vote for Oseloka Obaze, PDP flagbearer in the forthcoming Anambra governorship election.
Ekweremadu gave the assurance on Saturday, during the 4th Edition of Ikeoha Foundation Adult Literacy/Exhibition Day held at Udi Council Headquarters, Udi, Enugu State.
At the event, attended by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Ekweremadu splashed the sum of N38.5m on indigenes of Enugu State across the 17 Local Government Areas of the State, to aid their educational pursuit.
The lawmaker said he was optimistic that if elected, Obaze’s government will be favourable to the people of Enugu state, especially those resident in Anambra.
His words: “Enugu indigenes resident in Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, and all parts of Anambra state, will support you (Obaze) on the 18th of November.
“We wish you well and we wish you success. By God’s grace, we will be in Anambra next year to be part of your inauguration.”
Ekweremadu, who lauded the cordiality between him and Governor Ugwuanyi, Ekweremadu said, “my relationship with Governor Ugwuanyi has been wonderful. He has been very supportive. He sees me as friend and brother.
“We were both at the National Assembly before he left and today, I see him and recognize that he is the Governor of my state and therefore my leader.”
He described education as a greatest asset and noted that he would continue to invest in that sector as the surest way to lift the people out of poverty and make them self-dependent.
“I couldn’t have gotten to this level without the power of education; it made me equal with any other person across the world and that is why I can stand before any crowd without feeling intimidated.
“So, I urge our people to make good use of this opportunity to better their lives. We are acting within the limit of our resources; but as long as we are alive and healthy, we shall continue to do this”, he stated.
Speaking, Obaze pointed out that the five South-East states are intertwined and as such, anything that happens in one of the them affects the rest.
While lauding Ekweremadu’s investment in education and social welfare, Obaze said he would continue to be supportive of such drives.
