Enugu State is in the news again following alleged request for approval of a N7 billion loan by Governor Sullivan Chime’s government.

The news came barely four days after the Enugu State House of Assembly approved N11 billion loan for the Chime-led administration.

However, while the dust raised by the N11 billion was yet to settle, a source disclosed that the Governor had allegedly requested the House to approve another N7 billion it had earlier borrowed without its (House) knowledge.

Reacting to the development, the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr. Ben Nwoye said, “it is an extension of illegality that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government had embarked on against the people of Enugu state.

“They do it believing that Enugu people are stupid. But you will see that history will repeat itself. Those who are involved in the theft of public fund will be brought to book by an APC government in 2015.

“A post humorous authorization by the rubber-stamp House is a furtherance of illegal act by the executive. Their days are numbered and they will surely be brought to justice”.

Similarly, the National Chairman of the United Progressives Party, UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie, said, “it is worrisome that the Enugu State House of Assembly has made itself a rubber-stamp to the executive.

“It is evident in the way the former deputy governor, Sunday Onyebuchi was impeached.

“This is election period when the governor will be completing his tenure. The people should protest that such large amount of money was obtained without due process.

“No matter the justification by government for whatever purpose the money will be spent on, it should not violate the due process prescribed law.

“It is a grand plan to create unnecessary financial burden to the incoming government to inherit such atrocities”.

Meanwhile, DailyPost gathered that the development has divided the members of the House of Assembly.

The State Government is yet to officially react to the allegation as at the time of filling this report.
