The Enugu State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Friday welcomed with joy the withdrawal of a suit challenging the election of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as its governorship candidate in the State.
Business mogul, Evang. Samuel Onyishi withdrew the suit on Thursday.
In a statement signed by the PDP chairman in the state, Mr. Ikeji Asogwa, he said, “It is a laudable submission to the will of the generality of the Enugu State PDP faithful on the governorship ticket and a demonstration of commitment to the party and the common good of the people of the State.
“We commend this great step by this great party man, Dr. Sam Onyishi, as a patriotic and selfless response to the collective efforts to further boost the peace and strength of the PDP in Enugu State and consolidate our total control of the political levers of the State.
“This gesture by our illustrious son and member will no doubt strengthen our hands as we go to the field to elect President Goodluck Jonathan and our National Assembly candidates on 28th March as a prelude to the election of Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and our State Assembly candidates on April 11, 2015”.
“The party, therefore, calls on members of the PDP family nursing any grievances over the outcome of the various primary elections in the state to emulate the humility, unselfishness, and loyalty to the party demonstrated by Dr. Onyishi to move the party and Enugu State forward”, he added.
