Enugu guber: PDC candidate concedes victory to Ugwuanyi

The governorship candidate of the People for Democratic Change, PDC, in Enugu State, Hon. Barrister KGB Oguakwa, has conceded victory to the winner of Saturday guber election in the State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

In a press statement he issued on Sunday, titled “ENUGU PEOPLE HAVE EXPRESSED THEIR WILL. TO GOD BE THE GLORY”, he pledged to partner with him for the development of the State.

The statement read “On this historic and eventful period in our deepening, though nascent, democracy, I have followed rather anxiously the field reports from my Agents across the breadth of Enugu State during the course of this Governorship election.

“This rather keenly contested Governorship election has been devoid of many of the skirmishes which characterized elections of its caliber in the past, and this is, of course, regardless of the schisms, inadequacies, even protests, which have trailed the clearly distinguishable House of Assembly aspect of the April 11th 2015 Elections.

“I must salute the enthusiastic and peaceful participation of our dear electorate – my people of Enugu State who have turned out in appreciable numbers to express their choice from amongst those of us who put ourselves forward to seek their golden mandate to lead and to serve.

“The steady stream of Governorship election results trickling in from both the polling booths and different levels of collation from all around our dear Enugu State have indicated, not the loss by any candidate in this election, rather it portends a clear landslide preference for my brother and colleague Chairman at the House of Representatives, Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for the Governorship of Enugu State.

“Ahead of legal announcement following the imminent and expected collation of all the polling booth results by the Independent National Electoral Commission, I must concede and congratulate Gburugburu on his clear victory in this election.

“I appeal to all my fellow contestants to join me in embracing the new national spirit of sportsmanship. Please let all of us step forward and unite around our brother Gburugburu. Let us lead the way in showing our respect not only for our people of Enugu State from whom we had previously pleaded for votes, but let us also embrace the sacrifices necessary to engender the much needed consolidation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

“To His Excellency, the Governor-Elect of Enugu State, Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, I offer my congratulations. I pledge the solidarity of the Ebeano Political Family, that of the People for Democratic Change as well as all our members and supporters.

“You stand today upon the threshold of history with the collective destiny of ndiEnugu firmly in your gallant hands. To whom much is given, much is expected. The understandable yearning of our people for good governance and the concomitant dividends of democracy needs no emphasis. I am firm and secure in the knowledge that your calm, inclusive and caring personal style will bring about positive synergy of men, material and expertise of all strata, shade of opinion and cleavage of association, from which our dear Enugu State will perhaps, become much greater during your tenure.

“Congratulations Ifeanyichukwu. To God be the Glory!”
