Enugu Guber: Nsukka people commend Chime

The people of Nsukka in Enugu State have commended the state governor, Barr. Sullivan Chime over his declaration that it was the turn of the zone to produce the next governor of the state in 2015.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of Nsukka Elders Cultural Forum, NECF, Chief Maximus Ukuta, the zone said the declaration had shown that Chime “is a man of honour.”

Ukuta was reacting to the just concluded Town Hall meeting in Enugu where Governor Chime informed the members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and other stakeholders that it was the turn of Nsukka to produce his successor based on an internal arrangement of the party during the 2015 governorship election.

“My people are over joyed that the Governor has kept this covenant and has shown that he is indeed a man of honour. Indeed a Statesman, who keeps his word,” he said.

Chief Ukuta who had convened series of meetings of the people of Nsukka to sensitise the various segments- the intelegensia, business community and political leaders from the area, traced the indelible contribution of late Igwe Charles Abangwu towards the struggle. He recalled that late Igwe Abangwu had the vision when he brought together all the Traditional Rulers of old Nsukka Zone and the entire Enugu State, to rally support for Governor Chime, insisting that the Governor had his second term in office. Ukuta also commended the Governor for his support for the creation of Adada State as one of the additional states in Ibo land.

He emphasised that Adada State Movement, which was one of the oldest and suitably qualified both in land mass, mineral and human resources, had always topped the list of states’ agitation and ably positioned to be self sustaining, peaceful, and notable for its homogeneity and a food basket of the nation.

Furthermore, Ukuta lauded ”Governor Chime for constructing roads and creating a shorter routes from the university town of Nsukka to Enugu via the Opi road with work in earnest, and prayed for salubrious health for the Governor to complete the good work he had begun since the last six years.
