Enugu Guber: Intimidation, propaganda won’t deter me – Senator Ayogu Eze

One of the contenders for the PDP governorship ticket in Enugu State, Senator Ayogu Eze, on Sunday maintained that he would not be intimidated out of the race.

Speaking through his Governorship Campaign Organisation, the Senator alerted the general public about an alleged plot by some powerful forces to intimidate and harass him out of the 2015 governorship race.

Citing what it called “a rash of cooked up allegations and choreographed press statements aimed at discouraging and embarrassing its candidate”, the organisation in a statement, by its Director of Legal Services, Barr. Kingsley Onyeke, said that no amount of blackmail or intimidation would deter Sen. Eze from exercising his mandate.

The Organisation said that Sen. Eze’s campaign organisation had been posing very serious questions “as to where the delegates used for the so called governorship primaries in Enugu were fabricated from, yet nobody in Enugu or elsewhere has been able to provide answers to those questions”.

It asked those attacking Sen. Eze to first answer the troubling question of “where the delegates who voted on December 8, 2014 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, venue of the kangaroo primary came from when the party in the state had claimed in well celebrated court cases that it did not participate in the ward congresses that produced the ad hoc delegates.

“There are 1,008 delegates for the governorship primary election, 780 of whom are ad hoc delegates. These lawful delegates were denied access to the venue of this primary election as explained by the chairman of the Governorship Electoral Panel, His Highness, King Asara Asara when he briefed aspirants for the election”.

“Where then did one person get 937 delegates that purportedly voted for him from?”, the Organisation further asked.

It noted that its principal had faced one of the fiercest persecutions in the history of politics in Nigeria since he rejected the idea of hand picking a preferred candidate for the 2015 election, noting that apart from phoney petitions and a blistering propaganda warfare, any one associated with Sen. Eze who is in government has either been removed or threatened into submission.

The Organisation wondered why “rather than provide answers to the issue of criminality in using unauthorized delegates to conduct a purported primary election, the party is busy disowning its authentic candidate simply because some forces are pushing them. “If you didn’t participate in the congress and you didn’t accredit the lawful delegates recognized by a competent court of law, can you turn round to dispute irrefutable evidence that cheerleaders took over the venue to make up the number?”, the statement asked.

The statement also wondered “why the party and some political hirelings were busy hurling abuses at Sen. Eze while at the same time clandestinely procuring court injunctions and all sorts of orders to stop the party from submitting its candidate’s name for elections.

“What are they afraid of please? Can someone rouse these people to the reality that propaganda and coordinated media attack have never stopped a man ordained by God from fulfilling his destiny?”.

The statement noted that power comes from God, adding that all the forces on earth combined cannot stop the will of God.

It thanked the good people of Enugu State “for standing firm in their support for Sen. Eze even in the face of open threats”, adding that Sen. Eze has derived his strength from the messages of support and solidarity the people pour out to him daily.

It could be re-called that the Senator emerged as a PDP candidate in one of the three parallel guber primary elections held in Enugu State.
