The Enugu State Chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the umbrella body of all the 17 Local Government Chairmen in the State has congratulated the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for emerging victorious in the judgment delivered on Monday by Justice Evo Chukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja which affirmed him as the authentic candidate of the PDP in the State for the April 11 governorship election.
The Association through a statement signed by its State Chairman, who is also the Executive Chairman of Enugu East Local Government Area, Hon. Prince Cornelius Nnaji described the judgment as a victory for democracy and a clear indication that the PDP will coast to victory in the coming elections.
The State ALGON thanked the good people of Enugu State, PDP Faithful and its teeming supporters for their prayers and overwhelming support while the case lasted in the court and reassured them of the Association’s commitment of collaborating with the PDP in its noble course of entrenching internal democracy, rule of law and the principles of justice, equity and fairness in its dealings, as the surest means of presenting popular candidates and winning elections for the sustenance of good governance in the State.
Prince Nnaji, who was elated by the uncommon popularity and high acceptability of the governorship candidate of the PDP in the State, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, noted that the landmark judgment had vindicated the Party’s position that Ugwuanyi was duly elected as the governorship candidate of the party in Enugu State at the party’s governorship primary election on December 8, 2014.
He, however, urged Senator Ayogu Eze and few other aggrieved aspirants who are in court to accept the verdict in good faith and join hands with all Stakeholders in the State to ensure victory for the PDP in all the elections, in the spirit of sportsmanship and undiluted loyalty to the party vis-à-vis its supremacy.
The ALGON also commended those that contributed in one way or the other towards the victory, especially, the National Leadership of the PDP, the State Leader of the Party, Governor Sullivan Chime and other Party Leaders and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) among others, and charged its governorship candidate, Hon. Ugwuanyi to remain steadfast and focused in his resolve to sustain the tempo of the PDP-led Government of Governor Sullivan Chime through seamless continuity and consolidation of the four-point agenda, if he is elected.
