The lawmaker representing Nsukka East Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Christian Nwamba has described the 2019 governorship ambition of renowned Nollywood Actor, Kenneth Okonkwo as an impossible task.
The lawmaker said going by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s performance in office, no other political party’s candidate would constitute a threat to his (the Governor) ambition.
Nwamba said it was a tall dream for Okonkwo to think of polling one percent of the votes that would be cast in the election, let alone defeating Governor Ugwuanyi.
DAILY POST reports that the actor recently declared interest in occupying the Enugu Lion Building in 2019.
However, speaking during a town hall meeting with his constituents, Nwamba, who is also the South-East coordinator, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Youth Alliance, stressed that Ugwuanyi’s performance had touched the lives of the Enugu people positively.
He said the meeting was to sensitize the people on the ongoing voter’s registration, noting that we also used the event “to empower some youths in this constituency, line with His Excellency’s wealth creation strategies aimed at reducing unemployment to the barest minimum.
“I have also achieved so many things in terms of moving motions that impact on the lives of people of my constituency and Enugu State in general, supporting many executive bills and also private member bills, and empowerment in different ways.
“There are also several projects in my constituency attracted from 2011 till date. We are working in synergy with the executive to make sure that our various constituencies get deserved attention.
“If you look around, the governor is doing roads, health facilities and several other community-oriented projects.”
On Okonkwo’s claims that Gov. Ugwuanyi had not done well for Nsukka people, Nwamba said, “the governor’s programmes and projects are there for everybody to see.
“Okonkwo is not on ground; he doesn’t come back home, so how will he know what the governor is doing? He is just saying it as a politician; I don’t castigate people.
“We are going to give the governor 100 percent votes in 2019. Mr. Okonkwo, who is interested in governorship from another party, definitely will not get even one percent from my constituency as far as I am concerned.”
