The Enugu State Government said on Tuesday that it had set aside 22 rural roads for completion before the end of its tenure.
The Commissioner for Works, Mr Goddy Madueke, said this in Enugu during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Madueke promised that contractors would begin work during the dry season, to complete all the designated rural roads.
He said the lull in activities at the project sites was as a result of the rainy season, adding that it made road construction very difficult.
The commissioner said the ministry had commenced the inspection of recently-constructed roads in the state.
He listed some of the roads to include Amofia-Agu-Udi, Nenwe-Oduma, Ninth Mile-Udi-Akpakume-Nze roads, Ozalla-Ihe-Awgu.
“We are set to complete 22 rural roads in the state. Our contractors who used the opportunity of the rainy season to go on vacation are returning gradually.
“Very soon, the contractors will increase the pace of work to make sure that we meet our set goals. A lot of construction activities will start now.
“When contractors hand over the constructed roads to us, they still maintain them for one year.
“If there are damages within that one year, they will fix them at no cost to the government,’’ the commissioner said.
Madueke assured the people, especially rural dwellers, that the government was determined to complete the projects.
