Enugu government committed to wealth creation, poverty eradication – Gov. Ugwuanyi

Enugu State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, weekend, restated his government’s commitment towards wealth creation and poverty eradication in the State.

Ugwuanyi spoke during a courtesy visit to him by a non-governmental organization, God’s Agenda Men and Ladies International.

The Governor, who said his government was passionate about the well being of the poor and the downtrodden, noted that “I am not taking for granted the prayers of these category of people for our administration, which has in doubt continued to attract God’s presence in all we do.

“We all saw what happened during the Rangers AITEO CUP finals, when they were already 3 goals down, but with your prayers, God turned things around and Rangers came victorious.

“So, I thank you all for your prayers and assure that this administration shall not relent in initiating programmes and policies that would impact positively on the lives of the poor and common man in Enugu State.”

He said the State remained a safe destination for investors.

The group, led by its Chief Executive Officer and the Secretary, Lolo Chinelo Nnajieze and Amaka Ucheonye, respectively, had told the Governor at the Enugu Government House that they were touched by his administration’s accommodation of all shades  of interests in the State.

Nnajieze said the two-year-old organization was established to fight poverty and hunger across the country, stressing “we have presence in all States of the federation. We are here today because we have so many things in common with Your Excellency.

“We are so much touched by your government’s concern for the condition of the poor and downtrodden in the society.”

“More importantly, we are glad over the level of peace and security in the State since this administration came on board; since he took over in 2015, we have not heard about killings and those manner of things. We are not hearing about intimidation anybody for one thing or the other.

“So, we are here to assure him that our members are ready to support him in 2019; we are here today with our PVC and that is to demonstrate our commitment,” she added.

She had used the occasion to explain that the organization “created a unique thrift scheme that enables beneficiaries to access N200,000, N500,000 grants in addition to N80,000 worth of food items after saving about 9,000 or more monthly for ten months.

“In just one year, over one million indigent Nigerians have benefited from the packages in Enugu, Rivers, Anambra, Ebonyi, Imo, Lagos and the FCT.

“It will interest interest Your Excellency to know that of the 68 branches of our organizations across Nigeria, over 40 are located in Enugu State.

“This followed after observing Your Excellency’s love for the poor as demonstrated in the various financial empowerment and poverty alleviation packages and programmes for artisans, traders and the indigents in Enugu State.

“Consequently, we felt inspired to solicit a partnership with your esteemed government in order to reach and uplift more people in need at the grassroost.”

In a remark, the patron of the organization, Prince Joseph Nnajieze said “we are partnering with the Governor in his passionate poverty reduction agenda, and that is why all our members are working to see that he continues in office beyond 2019 for a second term.

“He has done well as the Governor of Enugu State and there is no way he will not be re-elected. We are on ground in the entire 17 local government areas of the State and we are working with all our coordinators and over one million members in this State for his re-election.”
