Enugu appointment: Nsukka LG zones commissioner position to Ovogovo

In the spirit of justice, equity, and fair play, the people of Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, have zoned commissionership slot to Nsukka West, popularly known as Ovogovo.

The decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting convened by the incumbent chairman of Nsukka council area, Mr. Patrick Omeje, in line with the state Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s, directive that all the various council areas should deliberate and nominate a consensus candidate from their locality that would serve as Commissioner in the state executive council.

DAILY POST gathered that motion for the Nsukka stakeholders zoning arrangement was moved by a former chairman of the council area, Barrister Tony Ugwu, while Hon. (Dr) Emma Ugwuerua, the member representing Nsukka West constituency at the state house of Assembly seconded it, after which it was overwhelmingly adopted by the whole house.

The meeting, which was chaired by former Senator that represented Enugu North senatorial district, Fidelis Okoro, held at Adada hall in Nsukka, was observed by some notable monarchs in the locality, such as Igwe Spencer Ugwuoke and Igwe Tony Ezenwa.

They said the decision was taken in the spirit of justice equity and fair play, as Nsukka West (Ovogovo) has not produced Commissioner since the creation of Enugu state in 1991.

The stakeholders said: “The commissionership slot should be zoned to Nsukka west (Ovogovo) and henceforth, we also agreed on a template for sharing appointments in the area.”

A key stakeholder from the area who goes by the name Bamanga Tukur, who equally attended the meeting, had in a letter sent to the the governtor which was obtained by our Correspondent said: ” Your Excellency sir, this is the outcome of the meeting we held in Adada hall to bring out the Commissioner from Nsukka

“Sir, after all deliberation, we agreed on a template that we go by the development areas and it was zoned to Nsukka West Ovogovo: which has 11 autonomous communities and five political wards, which include: Edemani, Apka/Ozi, Aro Uno, Ibagwani/Ibagwagu/Opkarigbo and Opkuje/Okwutu/Aluka ward’s because they are the only zone that have not produced commissioner since the creation of Enugu state.”
