The Enugu state chapter of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has clearly distanced itself from the newly constituted APGA national caretaker committee led by Chief Maxi Okwu.
It could be recalled that following the recent court removal of Chief Victor Umeh as national chairman of APGA by a high court sitting in Enugu, prominent members of the party, including Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, met in Abuja and adopted Okwu as the acting national chairman of the party.
However, the Enugu state Chairman of the party, Chief Okechukwu Nkolagu avowed that Okwu has stopped being a member of the party, since the party had expelled him eight years ago.
Addressing a press conference, Monday, in Enugu, Nkolagu said that whatever paper Okwu was parading as APGA membership card was fake and should be ignored by the general public.
Nkoloagu said that Okwu had not been accepted back into the party and urged all members of the party to distance themselves from him.
He further claimed that Okwu joined the Citizens Popular Party, CPP, after his expulsion and no longer have any stake in APGA.
“Maxi Okwu’s name has not appeared in any register at the ward, local government or state level in Enugu state chapter of APGA where I am the chairman since 2005 when he was expelled with our former Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie. This purported recall and membership claim by Maxi is quite false”, he claimed.
He said that when Okwu was expelled from APGA alongside the former national chairman, Chekwas Okorie, he challenged his expulsion up to the Supreme Court.
He further alleged that when Okorie approached the Appeal Court and sought to nullify their expulsion, Okwu at the time asked Okorie to withdraw his (Okwu’s) name from the case as he was reportedly not interested in pressing furthering his case to the Appeal court.
“That means Okwu accepted that he has been expelled by APGA, and didn’t want to waste his money and time going to appeal the case,” the Enugu APGA Chairman said.
He emphasised that Chief Victor Umeh, who was recently sacked by an Enugu High Court, still remains the party’s national Chairman.
“No APGA member should attend any meeting conveyed by Maxi Okwu. No APGA member should listen to him because he is not our member, and therefore he has no authority to convene any meeting of APGA,” Nkoloagu rightly affirmed..
