The All Progressives Congress (APC) Enugu State chapter, at the weekend, accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of a grand plot to bring back unbridled corruption to Nigeria.
The Enugu caucus of the party made the accusation in a statement after its emergency meeting on Sunday.
According to the statement signed by the Enugu State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mrs. Kate Ofor, the PDP was against President Muhammadu Buhari because of his war against corruption.
“After a careful analysis, we came to the inevitable conclusion that PDP’s ignoble mission is in simplicita – “#BRING BACK UNBRIDLED CORRUPTION# to Nigeria- via unwarranted propaganda blitz unleashed by PDP, against President Muhammadu Buhari,GCFR, and by extension our great party, APC.
“The scheme to bring back unbridled corruption drove the PDP to unabashedly, like Ostrich, bury its head in the sand, like Pontus Pilate wash its hand off and like Cowboys keep heaping on innocent President Buhari, all the blame of the recession – hunger, abject poverty and despondency in the land. PDP smartly exonerated its leadership from the planlessness and squandermania of the last 16 years, which caused the recession.
“Secondly, the craze to #BRING BACK UNBRIDLED CORRUPTION# to Nigeria is why PDP instead of joining President Buhari in laying the solid foundation of diversified, enduring and prosperous economy, had the guts to call on President Buhari to resign forthwith for failing to fix the economy they battered during their sixteen years leadership in less than 20 months. PDP thought Nigerians are morons who forget so easily.
“Thirdly, to hasten their passion to #BRING BACK UNBRIDLED CORRUPTION# to Nigeria, PDP embarked on recruitment of some clergy, traditional rulers and all manner of carpetbaggers to celebrate and fan the unfortunate hunger, abject poverty and despondency in the land; hence playing on the sensibilities of Nigerians to forget how 1,310 kilometers Kano-Lagos narrow rail gauge cost Nigeria $8.3 billion and 4,000 kilometers Lhasa-Beijing standard gauge cost China $4.2 billion.
“We cannot easily forget how PDP simulated the economic recession plaguing us today by squandering the money meant to augment the $23 billion Greenfield Refineries awarded to a Chinese firm on 13 May, 2010. The Greenfield Refineries were to be located in Bayelsa, Lagos and Kogi states, which could have stemmed foreign exchange demand and halt billions of Dollars expended over the years on importation of petroleum products.
“Fourthly, the nostalgia to #BRING BACK UNBRIDLED CORRUPTION# to Nigeria compelled the PDP to beat their chest for rebasing the Nigerian economy above that of South Africa, thus became the largest economy in Africa.
Going further, the caucus said, “While beating their chest, PDP ironically and cleverly glossed over the truism that their looting of over $15 billion of Excess Crude Account via the slush fund otherwise popularly dubbed Dasukigate; eroded the national treasury and led to the collapse of the Naira amidst the slump of oil prices.”
The Caucus said they were happy that the PDP was wittingly or unwittingly reminding Nigerians of the fraud-paradox embedded in a nebulous economic policy which pushed millions of Nigerians into poverty and on the same breadth produced the richest African.
Finally the Caucus opined that without sounding immodest, members of Enugu APC were of the candid view that, “President Buhari is on course in fixing the unprecedented rot, laying solid foundation for economic prosperity and that in times of recession, all political parties, civil society organizations and worthy patriots throughout history rally round their president, declare a state of emergency, collectively search for solutions; instead of plotting to #BRING BACK UNBRIDLED CORRUPTION# to Nigeria.”
