Members of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Enugu State chapter have elected new members of the State Working Committee, SWC, despite an alleged court order, stopping the state congress.
Some aggrieved members of the party had claimed that a High Court sitting in the state gave an injunction, stopping the exercise.
However, speaking to Journalists shortly after the election, the chairman of the Congress Committee, and former member, House of Representatives, Barrister Uche Onyeagocha, disclosed that the National Executive Council of their party mandated the four-man committee to conduct congress for the election of state officers, as well as ward and local government officers of the party in Enugu State.
He dismissed the allegation that there was an injunction against members of the committee, insisting that the no valid order was violated in the conduct of the election.
Also speaking, a chieftain of the party and its senatorial candidate in the 2011 General election in Enugu East Senatorial District, Dr Ben Nwoye explained that no order restrained the party from conducting congress in Enugu State.
He added that the purported order did not also restrain INEC and members of the State Security Service from observing the congress, saying that the injunction only restrained the caretaker committee of the party in the state from parading themselves.
Nwoye who also spoke on the state of the nation alleged that from every indication, President Goodluck Jonathan had no clear agenda and vision for Nigeria, stressing that most of the PDP members would soon defect to the APC.
“I will assure you that once the APC is pronounced, you will see massive defection from the PDP, massive defection from the ward to the local government to the state house of assembly and even some serving executive members of this state , you will see massive defection all the way to the senate and house of representatives, you will see massive defection” he stated.
He blamed the security challenges and economic instability in the country on what he called “lack of ideas” by the Federal Government to tackle the numerous challenges.
In a remark, Barr. Barth Ugwuoke, who emerged as the new ACN chairman in Enugu at the congress and observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC , alleged that PDP had turned the Coal City State into an instrument of mischief.
