Former Senate President, Senator David Mark has again condemned the killings in Benue state, urging the federal government to arrest the unabating bloodbath in his state on account of clashes between farmers and suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Scores of persons were reported to have been murdered in cold blood when gunmen invaded Logo, Turan, Mbagber, Yonov, Tombo, Varser and Anyin in Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue state a few days ago.

Reacting to the deteriorating security situation in a statement issued on Wednesday by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, Mark decried the continued invasion of communities in Benue state by suspected armed herdsmen which have claimed many lives and properties worth millions of naira .

The statement quotes the lawmaker representing Benue South thus: “Enough of the blood bath. Enough of this massacre. This war is senseless and needless .Why should we continue to kill ourselves and destroy our hard earned properties.

“It is time federal government steps in to salvage the situation. It has become too worrisome and truly intolerable.”

Mark lamented that the ugly situation has continued to deny the nation both human and material resources needed to take the country to the next level, stressing that the “Benue state government must as a matter of urgency liaise with the federal government to salvage the situation.

“Whatever the bone of contention may be, resorting to self help or taking another’s life cannot be a way out of the quagmire. We must live like civilized human beings.”

He reminded the combatants that there are established channels including the National Assembly for the aggrieved to seek redress instead of taking the laws into their hands.

The lawmaker for the umpteenth time calls for harmonious relationship irrespective of ethnic or religious differences, adding that “we would be adding value to ourselves if we cohabit peacefully and harmoniously with each other.”

He went on to request the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to send relief materials to the displaced persons in various camps in Benue state to bring succour to the victims.
