Benson Enikuomehin, the Senior Special Assistant on Oil and Gas to the Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, has resigned his appointment.
Enikuomehin, a former member on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, who was appointed by Akeredolu last year resigned from his position in a letter dated November 30, 2018 which was signed and addressed to Governor Akeredolu.
Enikuomehin, who joined the All Progressives Congress, APC, from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, did not state the reasons for his resignation.
However, it has been gathered that the sudden resignation of Enikuomehin was due to the alleged sidelining of his office as well as duplication of portfolios within his designation by Gov Akeredolu.
The resignation was confirmed by a source close to the former SSA, who pleaded not be named after efforts to contact Enikuomehin were unsuccessful as his phone lines were switched off at the time of filing this report.
The source disclosed that the resignation was largely due to what he described as the “illegalities” going on within the government of Akeredolu.
“For a while now, if you’ve watched closely, you will know that Enikuomehin has been so silent, which is unlike him.
“He has been complaining bitterly to those of us close to him at the manner at which Aketi (Gov Akeredolu) has been recklessly running the affairs of the state. The illegalities of this government is second to none.
“There are many SSAs and SAs doing the same job Enikuomehin was appointed to do. Can you just imagine that?
“On different occasions, he (Enikuomehin) had tried to make him (Gov. Akeredolu) to see the gaps he his creating within the cabinet, but he has refused to listen.
“Even what is most nauseating in all of this is that the state has been turned in a family affair.
“If there is any project or contract in the state, you will see the Governor’s wife and his son coming in by using their pseudo company to collect the contract.
“They are the only one milking the state and the Governor cannot say anything. Even the Commissioners cannot talk.”
The source, who did not rule out that Enikuomehin might also quit the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, hinted that he will be making his next political move known in the coming days.
“Very soon he will tell you his next move, but don’t rule out the possibility of him going to another party.
“Honestly, this is not how to run government, Akeredolu doesn’t know how to run government and let me tell you that Enikuomehin’s resignation is just the latest to come in this cabinet.”
