Two-goal hero, Harry Kane was awarded the Budweiser Man of the Match in England’s hard-fought 2-1 win against Tunisia in Group G of the 2018 FIFA World Cup on Monday.
Kane’s choice as Man of the Match did not come as a surprise following his brace which secured England their first World Cup opening group win since Germany 2006 where they pipped Paraguay 1-0.
Kane gave England the lead in the 11th minute and scored the winning the goal in the 91st minute. Ferjani Sassi made it 1-1 for Tunisia after converting a 35th minute penalty following a foul by Kyle Walker.
Speaking to Fifa.com, Kane praised his teammates for their performance in the important win.
“It’s always in the back of your mind, that it’s going to be one of those days. But that’s what the character is about, we work hard to go into 90+ minutes and thankful that we got one in the end..
“In the first half it felt good out there. We could’ve scored two or three goals in the first half and put the game to bed early. But in the World Cup against any team they’re always going to fight and keep going and we had to deal with that. I’m really pleased with how we played,” he said.
