England vs Nigeria: Mikel caused first goal – Chelsea FC

Chelsea football club have reacted to the outcome of Super Eagles’ pre-World Cup friendly match with England at the Wembley Stadium.

In a post on their website, the West London club blamed former Blues’ midfielder, John Mikel Obi for the first goal Gernot Rohr’s men conceded.

Eagles conceded two goals from Gary Cahill and Harry Kane in the first half before responding with an Alex Iwobi strike after the break as the game ended 2-1 in favour of the home team.

Reviewing the friendly between Nigeria and the Three Lions, Chelsea stated on their official webpage: ”Gary Cahill was on target for England at Wembley this evening, as the Three Lions stepped up their World Cup preparations with victory over Nigeria.

”The Chelsea skipper opened the scoring after just seven minutes, powering home a trademark header after escaping the attentions of former Blue, John Mikel Obi, to meet a Kieran Trippier corner.”

Nigeria will face Czech Republic in their next warm up game on Wednesday, before heading out to Russia and getting their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign underway in two weeks’ time.
