The Plateau State Security Council has commended security agents in the state for the way they have managed security challenges that hitherto bed evilled the State, by ensuring that the state was not one Of the States affected by the state of Emergency as declared yesterday by the president.
The Plateau State Commissioner of Information, Yiljap Abraham disclosed this to newsmen in Jos on Wednesday, after the State Security Council meeting, Chaired by the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Ignatius Longjan.
According to him, “The peace that we are currently experiencing in Plateau State is as a result of the focused and determined collaboration between the security services and the people themselves.
“The Security Council appreciates this, to the extent that Plateau State was not affected by the state of emergency declared yesterday.
This is a big plus to all the people of the state and we appreciate them for working very hard to have attained this level of peace.
He warns that, “Now that Plateau State has not been placed under emergency rule, indeed, it calls for greater alertness on all of us. We should not take anything for granted, because there are political predators, crisis merchants and desperate people who might even want to escape from those areas where emergency rule has been plant on, to infiltrate the state and cause havoc here,”.
The State’s Image maker further stated that, “The Security Council appreciates particularly the efforts by the security agencies in Plateau State, in attaining the level of peace, law an order that we are experiencing in the State. Plateau is experiencing calm and we are thankful that a lot of work, a lot of investment in terms of money, equipment and people has gone into getting us to this point, where we are today.
“The Security Council is also very appreciative to the stakeholders in Plateau State, particularly those from the Southern and Northern zones. You recall the constant interaction and dialogue we have had; over a period of time.
“This has helped to inspire confidence in the people to the point that, we had cease fire in all the zones and there is peace prevailing. Farmers are going out to farm and also herders are going out to graze.
“We will like to the political class particularly to take up the challenge from here, because the two parleys, where initiated by the security agencies as well as the Plateau State Government, but we now need to have political actors take up this challenge and have such parleys on continuing bases in their various zones.
Yiljap further stated that the peace being experience in the State is as a result of “focused and determined collaboration between the security services and the people themselves.
The Security Council condemned the killing of security agents, in different parts of the country, calling on all Nigerians to work hand in hand with security agents, as well as helping them in the dispensation of their duties. Saying, “Just as they want to protect us, we also need to work to help them and to protect them”.
It sympathized with all security agencies, who lost some of the men in during the course of discharging their constitutional role in different States of the federation.
He confirmed that three of the SSS officers killed in the Nassarawa unrest last week were from Plateau State.
