The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, says Chief Edwin Clark’s call for state of emergency in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa States is not in the best interest of the country.
Speaking to DAILY POST on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the secretary of the party in the state, Elder Sunday Onukwubiri explained that imposing a state of emergency in the three northern states would mean returning Nigeria to military rule.
His words, “I wonder why at this time Chief Edwin Clark will be calling for state of emergency. When you call for state of emergency in three states in Nigeria, invariably you are calling the army to take over.
“It is also showing that federal government of Nigeria is not doing much to stop terrorist attacks in the north.”
Onukwubiri said the statement from the Ijaw leader was capable of truncating the nation’s democracy.
“We are talking about election coming in 2019. That statement by Clark is trying to truncate democracy, because we are saying the government at the centre must be changed,” he added.
