Emergence of the APC is a welcome development – IBB

As the All Progressive Congress, APC, joins the league of political parties in Nigeria, former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida has stated that the development will transform the nation’s political system which will become more vibrant, especially in the coming 2015 elections.

Fielding questions from newsmen in his Hill Top Mansion, Minna Thursday, the former leader said that the floor is now left bare for the electorate to make their choice and ensure that their votes count in the 2015 general elections.

His words, “With the emergence of the new party, (APC), we will now see a vibrant political activity and what is left for the electorate and the press is to ensure that the votes count and also allow the people to make their choice.”

According to him, as an advocate and believer in two party system, the time has come for Nigerians to really shine their eyes and make the right choice for the forthcoming elections.

“I have been and will continue to be a strong believer of two party system and like the PDP itself said on the emergence of the APC, it is a welcome development but that is not to say that other registered political parties are dead, but it is however clear that we now have two strong parties in the country,” he stressed.

On what he foresees for the country in 2015, Gen. Babangida simply said, “I cannot predict the future and so I wait for God.”

Adding his voice to the ongoing ASUU strike, IBB called on the federal government to find a lasting solution to the issue.

“They do have national interest at heart, to be honest and fair to them, and I think they should not give up in negotiating with the government but as much as possible, they should also make the public understand the issue at stake,” he added.
