Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike, has suffered a fresh injury on his return from a lengthy lay-off and is set to undergo surgery.
The Spartak Moscow frontman, has been out of action since February, after he suffered a thigh injury at the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa. He made his return on Sunday, against fellow Russian side, Anzi, but was stretched off 30 minutes later.
A report on his club’s official website stated that, “The attacker also known as ‘Spartacus,’ Emmanuel Emenike, who was injured in the match against the “Anji”, went through a medical examination and according to team doctor, Michael Vartapetova, our forward has gotten an internal meniscus damage and partial damage to the internal lateral ligament of the knee. In the near future he will have arthroscopic surgery.
Emenike has featured 16 times for his club this season and will surely miss Nigeria’s upcoming fixtures this summer, as club doctors have ruled him out for two months.
“As it is now, I will be out of national assignments. It hurts but I have no choice. I have to focus on my recovery for next season,” the powerful forward said.
