The Benue Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp, NSCDC, at the weekend disclosed that it has apprehended 15 electricity cable vandals and two armed robbers from across the state in the past six months.
According to the State Commandant, Andrew Ugwumba, the miscreants were nabbed as a result of surveillance mounted by operatives of NSCDC.
Ugwumba said, “Our men are also mounting surveillance on PHCN cables. We arrested about 15 vandals of Jos electricity distribution/NIPP cables. Ten of them have been prosecuted. Two were sentenced to five years imprisonment each without any option of fine by a federal High Court in Makurdi.”
He further noted that the surveillance has been extended to Gboko and Alaide where there are cases of youth restiveness.
“We also arrested some boys who we cautioned and released to the Tor-Tiv after making them to sign an undertaking. We rescued a kidnap victim, Cletus Odo at Okpoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area two weeks ago. He was abducted from Nsukka and taken to Okpoga in Benue. Our men stormed the place and effected his release while the abductors escaped. Some dangerous items were recovered. The items included; two AK 47 rifles, three locally made pistols and charms, axe, live ammunitions as well as handsets. We also arrested two armed robbers at Ugbokolo in Okpokwu Local Government Area and after due process, the men were handed over to the police,” The State Command stated.
