The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday reiterated its preparedness to conduct the general elections, starting from Saturday.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu declared that the commission was fully prepared to conduct the elections without any further postponement.
Fielding questions during the commission’s daily briefing in Abuja, Yakubu also insisted that he was not under any pressure regarding the elections.
The INEC boss also disclosed that election will commence by 8am on Saturday.
Yakubu said: “I said so yesterday and I’m repeating it that I’m not under any pressure. As at the last time I checked, I’m still the chairman of INEC and constitutionally the returning officer of the presidential election, and on this stance to draw my conclusion that I’m ready to conduct the elections.
“Polls will commence at 8pm on Saturday. The immigration service will grant extension of visas to all international observers due to the shift.
“All observers with short entry visas can now go to our head office in Maitama Abuja for renewal, there will be Immigration officers to attend to them.”
