Elections: Why we’ll vote for Atiku, PDP candidates – Zamfara traders

Business men and women in Zamfara state have vowed to cast their votes for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and all other Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, members seeking various elective positions.

Speaking with DAILY POST in Gusau, the state capital, the leader of the traders association, Chief Ikechukwu Obiora said they arrived at the conclusion because the state was not favourable to business people due to the insecurity situation in the state.

“I can say it anywhere that commerce has been killed in the state due to the lapses of the present government led by Abdulaziz Yari, insecurity started in his administration,” he said.

According to him, he has been in the state for more than 20 years and they have been doing their businesses without fear of being harassed.

Obiora noted that he was in the state when former Governor Ahmad Sani Yarima now a senator implemented Sharia Law yet not one indigine lost his or her life as a result of the Sharia.

“We were saved in state because Yarima gave us the assurance that no indigene in the state would ever lose his or her life as he assured to give us adequate protection,” he said.

He stated that even during the advent of former Governor Mahmuda Aliyu Shinkafi, commerce was flourishing, stressing that the none indigenes especially the Igbo, were very much happy with his government.

Continuing, Obiora noted that nobody can be happy with any government when his or her source of income is closed, adding that every trader in the state is just managing to survive in the state.

“Well, I don’t want to believe according to speculation that the government is actually behind the massive killings and kidnappings in the state.

“If actually the government has hand in the insecurity situation, then the government is very irresponsible because no reasonable government can be happy when thousands of its citizens are dying on daily basis.

“But if the government is behind the terror attacks in the state, the truth must find them out after their tenure.”

He stated that to be free from the security challenges, his association decided to give their support to Atiku and the PDP in the state so as to move forward in their businesses.
