Reactions have continued to trail the postponement of the presidential and National Assembly elections as the gubernatorial candidate of Labour Party in Plateau State, Nura Tanko Waziri, has called on the federal government to, in the spirit of fair play, reimburse all registered political parties with the sum of one billion naira each.
He said failure to do so would clearly show that the postponement was intended to weakened smaller parties that have spent so much for the polls.
Waziri stated this while addressing journalists in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
He said most candidates, who had collected loan with interests, have suffered great loss and are now in dilemma.
“I therefore suggest that the federal government in the spirit of fair play should reimburse all registered political parties with the sum of one billion naira each to ensure a successful election.
“Failure to reimburse them will clearly show that the postponement was intended to break the smaller political parties and their candidates.”
According to him, the postponement was caused by “incompetence, negligence or compromise, either way the INEC staff involved must be identified, sack and persecuted”.
He advised that henceforth, when such decisions are taken, its effects on Nigerians must be considered.
