National Secretary and gubernatorial candidate of the APC in Yobe State for the 2019 general elections, Hon Mai Mala Buni has expressed disappointment over the postponement of the general elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Buni said, “It’s disappointing and saddening, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), postponed overwhelming victory of our party by one – week as it did citing challenges of implementation of its logistics and operational plan as reasons for the postponement”.
He appealed to the people of Yobe State not to despair but to strategize for the rescheduled Presidential and National Assembly elections next week 23 February, 2019.
DAILY POST had reported that INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, while addressing reporters at the press centre of the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, said that the polls would not go on as planned due to some challenges encountered by the commission.
He explained that the decision to postpone the general elections followed a careful review of the implementation of the logistics and operational plans put in place for the exercise
But, Buni, in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, on Sunday afternoon, “urged the APC supporters not to be discouraged adding that the Saturday, 23rd February, 2019 is just a week as it is more time to convince more friends and families to turn out to vote President Muhammadu Buhari and all the members of the National Assembly of the All Progressives Congress in the state”.
The APC chieftain “stressed on the need to respect the decisions of the electoral umpire and their independence, too in conducting free, fair and credible elections adding that President Muhammadu Buhari has strengthened the institution responsible for our elections.”
Buni commended the people for their continued support and sacrifices for President Buhari and Governor Gaidam, urging them not to relent as victory is assured in the journey to the next level.
