As the 2015 general elections approach, political parties in Kogi State yesterday signed a peace accord to ensure free, fair, and violence-free general elections in the state.
The signing of the peace pact, organised by the state chapter of the Inter Party Accord Committee, IPAC, had candidates of various political parties at the state police headquarters in Lokoja.
Speaking at the event, the state Police Commissioner, Adeyemi Ogunjemulusi said the peace accord was capable of further cementing peace in the state before, during and after the elections.
The police boss appealed to the parties and their candidates to imbibe the spirit of free, fair, credible and non-violent elections, cautioning them against engaging masquerades in their campaign trains.
“The police shall provide a level playing ground for all parties and their candidates. We also admonish all parties not to use masquerades during the election period. Any masquerade which perpetuates violence will be arrested and prosecuted”, he warned. .
