Good Access, an NGO, has appealed to Nigerians to embrace peace regardless of ethnic and political differences during the general elections.
Mrs Adama Ahmed, the Coordinator of the organisation, made this appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
Ahmed stressed the need for Nigerians to also remember the labour of “our heroes past’’ during the period of election while urging them to show love and promote unity in the country.
She called on political leaders to give hope to the hopeless even in the face of insecurity and other challenges the country was going through.
She called on all stakeholders, political leaders, religious leaders, Civil Society organizations and youth organizations to also be involved in the message of hope and peace in the country.
“Nigerians at this point in time must ensure that they are orderly and as such desist from any act that is capable of causing electoral violence in the general elections.
“We should therefore ensure that we go out en mass by using the Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to vote for the candidates of our choices,” she said.
She further called on the Nigerian youths to avoid being used by politicians to cause havoc during the election.
“The youths are the future of this great country and must totally desists from being used by our leaders to wreck this country.
“If the youths can also remain focused and allow God to have His ways in this election, then we can all boast of a successful election,” she added.
The coordinator stressed the need for the internally displaced persons in the country to vote in any region they found themselves.
She said that this would enable them not to be disenfranchised in the election and as such their votes would be counted as they are citizens of the country.
“Our leaders must learn how to give care and peace to those who are troubled.
“It is therefore necessary to give hope to the hopeless in the country so that people can find a place to fit in,” she said.
Ahmed however appealed to aggrieved groups and individuals in the country to embrace peace and shun all forms of violence and crisis in the country.
She further called on religious organisations to inculcate the good teaching of peace and love on its congregations.
