The Plateau office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, advised ad-hoc staffers yet to receive their allowances, to rectify their bank account details.
Mr Osaretin Imahiyereobo, Head, Voters Education and Publicity in Jos, said, “We have heard complaints that some ad hoc staff are yet to receive their allowances. Our checks reveal that those in that category have issues with their bank details. They should rectify that”.
NAN reports Imahiyereobo as advising the affected workers to come to the commission’s office to reconcile their bank details so as to ease the payment.
The INEC official spoke in a Town Hall Meeting organised by Search For Common Ground, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).
He said that the commission was not responsible for the delay in the payment of the allowances.
“INEC is not at fault in this matter. The ad-hoc staff have themselves to blame because some of them did not give their correct bank account details.
“We are advising anyone who has not received his or her allowances to come forward to the commission to rectify his or her bank account number. Once that is done, the allowances will be received without delay,” he said.
Imahiyereobo also spoke on the issue of inconclusive elections and attributed it to some challenges bordering on the conduct of politicians and voters.
According to him, “inconclusive elections happened because we had issues that called for that and we had to allow it for peace to reign.”
