The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Zamfara State has recruited 18, 538 ad-hoc staff for this month’s general elections.
The State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Abubakar Wara, stated this on Friday in Gusau during a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the commission for the smooth running of the elections. He explained that the ad-hoc staff were recruited based on merit, and without recourse to any sentiment or personal interest.
“The training of trainers who will in turn train all the other ad-hoc staff is in progress,” he said. Wara also said that INEC had distributed 97 percent of Permanent Voter Cards for the state, adding that the remaining registered voters would also get their cards.
“The distribution of PVCs is still in progress in order to enable everyone posses his own.” He called on politicians to cooperate with the commission to ensure successful conduct of the general election. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that those who attended the meeting included traditional rulers, political parties, security agents, the media, civil society organisations and persons living with disabilities among others.
