Elections: APC, PDP trade words over alleged importation of firearms into Osun

The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) have been trading words in Osun East senatorial district of the state, over an alleged importation of firearms, and recruitment of political thugs for the purpose of elections.

The PDP senatorial candidate for Osun East, Chief Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, in a press statement made available to DAILY POST on Sunday, said contrary to what APC made people to believe, the party relied on violence and anarchy to win elections in the zone.

He accused the APC senatorial candidate in the zone, Hon. Israel Famurewa of leading armed thugs with his official vehicles to terrorise people and intimidate them into submission.

Fadahunsi alleged that Famurewa, who is presently a member of the House of Representatives in Abuja, and a former Director General of APC governorship campaign committee in the just-concluded gubernatorial election in the state, was using a popular group of urchins known as ‘state boys’ to intimidate voters, adding that the group remained an instrument of oppression during the last administration of APC in the state.

“I can boldly say that the said thugs were those that have worked for APC in the previous elections, they are popularly called State Boys. These APC hoodlums and terrorists were led by Hon. Famurewa.

“The problem APC has is that they have lost political popularity and relevance as nothing taken by force lasts, hence the desperation to wreck havoc.

“Famurewa who is claiming not to have thugs has been using his Jeep, patrol vans to carry them about to attack opponents.

“He started his terror act within Ilesa when he led his thugs to my campaign office in Omiru area of Ilesa to attack my supporters, before proceeding to Benedict Hotel in Atakumosa, where they kidnapped a security guard only to be released the second day.

“They also shot sporadically at Orange Hotel. All these cases were reported to the Assistant Inspector of Police (AIG) Zone 11, Osogbo who directed the Commissioner of Police to do an assessment of the area. The CP has been to Ifewara with armoured personnel carrier on this.

”Call Hon. Famurewa to order. He should stop terrorising the people because he wants to be a senator.

“The whole world should hear us and come to our rescue . We are calling on the International Communities to help us appeal to Famurewa and APC to stop attacking our people.

“Recently in Obokun Local Government, APC thugs shot somebody dead, The police thought they were doing their job, he was arrested and detained but the thugs invaded the police station, attacked and freed him. The DPO was equally stoned by the hoodlums and the next thing was the transfer of the DPO,” Fadahunsi resorted.

Meanwhile, the APC candidate, Famurewa, in a press conference on Saturday, also accused PDP of importing firearms into the zone, with the sole aim of intimidating the electorate.

He alleged that Fadahunsi imported guns, which include 60 AK47 and 40 pump action rifles, to wreck havoc during the postponed election.
