Elections: APC members protest at INEC’s office over exclusion of candidates

Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State have blocked the entrance of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, office in Port Harcourt.

APC is the main opposition political party in Rivers State.

Thousands of party members blocked INEC office on Aba Road in Port Harcourt, around 8am, insisting that the electoral commission must obey the ruling of Court of Appeal and relist their candidates for Saturday’s election.

One of the protesters, Chike Worlu, who spoke to DAILY POST, said, “It can’t happen in Rivers State. How can there be election in Rivers State without the only party in the state. APC is the only party trusted by Rivers people and the Appeal Court judgement is binding on INEC to add our candidates in the ballot.

“We will not leave here until we get justice.”

As at press time, the aggrieved protesters are displaying placards with inscriptions such as: “No APC, no elections in Rivers State.”

Orji Ngofa, the APC candidate for Rivers Southeast Senatorial District, and Nigeria’s Ambassador to The Netherlands, led the protest.
