The All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, on Thursday withdrew the case against the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its candidate, Alhaji Mukhtar Idris, before the Zamfara State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
They told the tribunal that the decision to withdraw the matter was based on the Supreme Court judgement that on May 24, invalidated the declaration of Idris of the APC as winner of the Zamfara governorship poll.
Their lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Mbaeri, said they were no longer interested in the petition, since the Respondents have been sacked by the apex court.
The tribunal consequently struck out the matter.
It would be recalled the apex court, in a unanimous judgment delivered by a five-man panel of Justices led by the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, held that the APC did not conduct valid primaries ahead of the 2019 general election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has since issued Certificates of Return to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidates in Zamfara.
