The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria ((MUSWEN), on Wednesday implored Muslims in the South West region and other Muslims in the country to heed to the decision of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), before they end their Ramadan fast which culminates in the Eld-Fitri celebrations the following day.
MUSWEN in a statement signed by Professor Dawud Noibi, its Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer (CEO), a copy of which was mailed to DAILY POST, warned South West Muslims and others in the country not to disobey the decision of the NSCIA which is the umbrella body of Muslims in the country before they end their fast.
Noibi said in the statement that, “The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) hereby calls the attention of all stakeholders in the South West region to the statement issued by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) earlier today on the end of Ramadan 1439H”.
Noibi said that by NSCIA directive, the 29th day of Ramadan falls on Thursday, June 14, saying that the search for the crescent for the new month of Shawwal 1439H shall be after the sunset on Thursday.
He said, “By NSCIA’s directive, the 29th day of Ramadan falls on Thursday, 14th June, 2018. As such, the search for the crescent for the month of Shawwal 1439H shall be after sunset on Thursday, 14th June, 2018.
“Depending on the outcome of the search for the crescent and the subsequent formal pronouncement by the Sultan of Sokoto/President-General of NSCIA, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Eidul Fitr can only fall on either Friday, 15th June, 2018 (if Ramadan is 29 days) or Saturday, 16th June, 2018 (if Ramadan is 30 days).
“We, therefore, request all stakeholders to fully comply with NSCIA’s directive.
“May Allah strengthen the unity of the Ummah and accept our ‘ibadaat in Ramadan”.
