Eld-Fitr: FRSC to try erring drivers in mobile courts, deploys 750 regular Marshals, others in Oyo

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Sector Command on Tuesday declared that no fewer than 750 Regular/Special Marshals, 25 operational vehicles and 1 Motorbike are on the standby to ensure free flow of vehicular and human movements for the forthcoming Eld-El-Fitri celebrations in the state.

The command in a statement made available to DAILY POST by DRC Oluwaseun Onijala, Staff Officer Public Education on behalf of the sector commander, Corps Commander Cecilia Alao added that ambulances and tow trucks have been mobilised to ensure hitch free Eld celebrations in the state.

Onijala while adding that breathalyzers for alcohol testing have also been deployed, however, warned erring traffic offenders to stay off the roads, adding that erring offenders would be tried in mobile courts during the special patrol between Wednesday and Monday.

He said, “The climax of the 2018 Ramadan Season which is a symbolic period in the Islamic Calendar is at hand and as expected, the Eid-Fitr celebration will witness an increase in human and vehicular traffic across the Nation’s highways.

“In view of the need to checkmate incidents of risk arising from inappropriate road usage and other untoward road use behaviors which can accelerate occurrence of road traffic crashes, RS11.3 Oyo Sector Command considers it imperative to outline the modalities of the Special Patrol geared towards achieving crash free 2018 Eid-El-Fitr celebrations and a smooth road transition within the specified period.

“Deployment of 750 Regular/Special Marshals drawn from the Ten (10) FRSC formations in Oyo State including the Sector Command to man all major routes within the State. Deployment of 25 Operational vehicles, 1 Motorbike, ambulances and tow trucks. Deployment of breathalyzers for alcohol testing.

“Conduct of Public Education/Enlightenment campaigns via print/electronic/social media, motor parks rallies, road shows and domesticated sensitization at religious places of worship, market places and fleet terminals.

“Conduct of Mobile Court sittings to try erring traffic violators.

“To achieve the desired goal of the Special Patrol, the following objectives will suffice. Traffic Control and decongestion to ensure free flow of traffic along major routes. Prompt removal of road obstruction to forestall occurrence of traffic gridlocks. Prompt response to distress call from road traffic crashes and effective post crash care. Effective traffic management to curtail disorderliness. Strict enforcement of traffic laws and regulations with specific focus on the following infractions;

“Members of the motoring public are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, explore usage of alternative routes where necessary, avoid night travel as much as possible and imbibe culture of safe and responsible road usage within the period.

“While wishing all Muslim faithful a blissful Eid-el-Fitr celebration, it is apposite to emphasize that compliance with traffic rules and regulations exhibited by abstinence from acts capable of causing crashes during the period and beyond remains integral to sustenance of safe motoring environment”.
