The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) on Thursday alleged that the government of President Muhammadu Buhari in connivance with the Kaduna State Government led by Gov Nasir El-Rufai, do not want Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), to be alive.
Its spokesman, Imo Ugochinyere, in a statement, said the announcement by the Department of State Services (DSS) that it would free El-Zakzaky was a ruse.
CUPP added that the Kaduna government’s move to frustrate the freedom of the Shiites’ leader and continue to keep them in detention was to ensure that El-Zakzaky dies in detention.
It said: “This fragrant violation of law and order is how our nation has turned into poverty capital of the world, headquarters of killer bandits in West Africa, corruption centre, nepotism hub etc.
“We are ruled today by men who learnt their politics from ruthless dictators and a political party that does not understand the requirements of constitutional democracy and is working to surpass the record of Mobutu Seseseko’s, Idi Amin’s, Blaise Campore’s, Paul Biya’s ruling parties.
“Let us make this clear, the opposition will not stand by and watch as these autocrats destroy the last vestiges of our democracy. This is a constitutional government and not a farming field that belongs to Buhari and El-Rufai. These shenanigans must stop: this pushing of people to wall must stop.
“The Republic is sliding into total anarchy and the president must stop this and call his errand boys to order. Kaduna State government must learn to obey the Courts and cannot sit on appeal over the order of the High Court of Kaduna.
“If anything happens to Mallam Ibraheem El-Zakzaky while in custody, Nigerians should hold President Buhari and Gov. Nasir El-Rufai responsible for the consequences of their government contemptuous action,” the coalition said.
