A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka has described the death of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme as a colossal loss to Nigeria and Igbos in particular.
Chidoka, who was at the late former vice president’s residence in Enugu to sign the condolence register, described Ekwueme as a selfless Nigerian who gave all to Nigeria and also worked to further the country’s politics.
The former minister and governorship candidate of the United Progressives Party(UPP) in the just concluded election in Anambra was received by daughter of the demised statesman, Barr Chidi Onyemelukwe, who was also the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Deputy Governorship candidate.
Chidoka while condoling Ekwueme’s widow, Mrs. Beatrice Ekwueme, assured her of his continuous support and prayers for the family especially at this trying moment.
He recounted his cherished moments with the late Chief whom he described as loving, selfless, compassionate and peace-loving while he lived.
He said, “Ekwueme was a man who defined and redefined the essence of politics in Nigeria. A man who built a political career anchored on integrity. A man who loved and lived life to the fullest. A man who I admired greatly. A man who encouraged and loved me.”
Meanwhile, the former aviation minister had in an interaction with members of his campaign organization and the people of his community, Obosi in Idemili North local government area said he will not stop running for governor until he wins.
Chidoka said the journey to Anambra Government House had just begun, insisting that ‘there will be no retreat, no surrender’ until the objective was achieved.
He said: “God’s time is the best and what I am asking from God is to give me what is due to me. Whatever God has destined must come to pass. The journey we have started will continue and I want to assure Anambra people that they will not be disappointed in our next outing.
“I am very optimistic that I will win the next governorship election to be conducted in Anambra State because that election will be determined by a lot of factors.
“After the 2019 general elections, we will begin to work for the 2022 election in earnest and the experience we gathered this year will be our guide.”
