A former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has described late former Vice President of Nigeria, Dr. Alex Ekwueme as a fountain of knowledge and intellect.
He spoke at a commendation service organised in honour of Ekwueme by the South-East Governors’ Forum, at the Michael Okpara Square, in Enugu.
Ekwueme’s remains was at the venue of the event, which was also attended by governors and deputy governors of the South-East states and many other dignitaries.
The former Vice-President said, “Between 1994 and 1995, Dr. Alex Ekwueme served in the constitutional conference that drafted the present constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“He was indeed a fountain of wisdom and intellect. He was one man who became a rallying point in the constitutional conference even though we also disagreed. I was one of those who disagreed with him on the restructuring of the country on the basis of geopolitical zones.
“He died at a time Nigeria needed his fountain of knowledge and intellect.”
